Gravel from sustainable sources
I am planning to lay gravel in my front garden. Can I have advice on which types of gravel are more environmentally friendly? I'm interested in sustainable sources and transport.
Thanks
Thanks
re, environementally friendly aggregates
Hi Nancy,
glad to hear you are dong your part for the environment.
Unfortunately, all gravels and aggregates are mined and thus are not derived from a sustainable source.
I would suggest that you use a bark or recycled rubber chippings instead of the gravel.
All of our barks and mulches originate from renewable woodland approved by the Forest Stewardship Council.
Recycled Rubber Chippings are a great choice for the eco-concious gardener.
They are made from recycled tyres and come in a variety of colours.
Not only do they last longer than normal bark but this process prevents the tyres from being sent to landfill sites or burned.
They also have a very mild citronella scent which will deter animals away from your garden!
I hope this has helped.
Do please check out our range of Organic soils and composts if you do decide to really get involved in the green movement - don't forget to have everything delivered at once to cut down the lorry loads coming to your property!
Do get in touch again if you need any further help,
Bests,
Katie.

Re: Gravel from sustainable sources
Rubber chippings are a good idea as an eco friendly substitute to gravel.
It is usually made from shredded car tyres so cuts out any rubber burning.
You can also get them in a range of different colours.
