How do I lay a new Lawn

My lawn is very uneven & needs building up to the level of a path, in some places this will be a much as 6", what is the best way. Should I dig up the existing lawn, level with top soil & lay new turf or can I cut the lawn very short then level over the top & lay new turf.

Hi Chris,
did you manage to lay your lawn?
If you go to Dandy's blog - blog.dandys.org - there is a really straight forward guide on there - I printed out their raised bed one and managed to build a perfect veggie plot at the bottom of my garden following it and I am a complete amateur in the garden.
