re mushroom compost
Hello Jackie,
I have always found that mushroom compost is ever so slightly on the acidic side - somewhere between 7.5 and 8.5 - that said it really does depend on the concentration of chicken manure in it as this is where the acid comes from.
I have always used well spent mushroom compost for planting and all of my plants and vegetables seem to love it when it is well mixed in with the soil.
I generally go for a 70/30 mix of soil and mushroom compost respectively and it works a treat.
Incidentally - I have always found that my rhododendrons seem to love the mushroom compost yet I have come across many people who disagree so I would love to hear anyones thoughts on that issue.
K Regards
M.G.
